Mothering with Joy and Freedom

A Woman’s Life

“The art of life lies in a constant readjustment to our surroundings.”

― Kakuzo Okakura, The Book of Tea

Women are continually experiencing change, around them and within themselves. We move from adolescence into adulthood, marriage, and then into the various stages of motherhood.

In each stage of womanhood, we are continually seeking and developing our sense of self and identity. This continual change is the only constant, and, as much as we would all like to just settle down and find our place in the world, this constant change requires a “re-fluffing of our nests” so to speak.

With each stage we learn and adapt to our new surroundings. We learn and adapt to our new identities: daughter, student, adult, girlfriend, wife, mother, and all kinds of different friend. We do a lot of learning in between.

Learning what “you oughta know,” (things that you weren’t taught). Learning what truly makes a home.

Learning that life is not Pinterest perfect beyond the range of that camera lens. Learning that life is messy. Learning to embrace the beautiful tender moments, the sweet fruit, in the chaos. Each stage, each season has its own set of joys & sorrows, easy and hard, but learning that no stage is necessarily easier than the other.

Learning that we weren’t meant to do this alone.

Welcome to Mom’s New Nest, a collection of my thoughts, ponderings, and learnings about womanhood, motherhood, and homemaking.
